The largest marathon in the world is back for its 51st year in 2022. The field will return to full capacity with 50,000 runners from all over the world competing—after having been reduced to roughly half that amount in 2021 for health and safety reasons. (Note: runners must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.) Amateur and hobby runners of all ages and abilities will join elite professional athletes to complete the 26.2-mile course. Cheering spectators line the course, which starts in Staten Island, continues over the Verrazzano Bridge through Brooklyn and Queens, veers into the Bronx and then down through Manhattan to finish in Central Park.
