Marking one year after the Maui wildfires, The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua will present Hi'uwai and E Ala E at Honokahua (D.T. Fleming Beach). The ceremonies will start promptly at 5:45 a.m. Hotel guests, island visitors, and the local community are all welcomed and encouraged to attend this sacred ritual, led by Cultural Advisor Clifford Nae'ole.
According to Nae'ole, "This is a time of rejuvenation, restarting and remembering. It is a solemn time that reminds us of what happened, but most importantly, what will happen in the future. It's a great way to start towards a new beginning."
During this ritual, participants will venture to the ocean's edge to ceremoniously immerse in the cleansing waters of the ocean. Then, chants are offered by all to the rising sun. Attendees should wear swimwear and bring towels.
